Recovering Lost Ground: A Biblical Response To Loss

I have just recently had my new book published called Recovering Lost Ground. The reason for writing the book came about through the many people I have counselled who have suffered loss in its multifacted forms. We all suffer loss. This is reality, which we cannot avoid. However, most of us have never been prepared to handle loss when its strikes. This in turn causes us to question God’s faithfulnesss and goodness. ‘Lord why did you allow this loss to strike me?’ ‘Where were you?’ ‘Why now?’ ‘What is to become of me?’ In other words, losses can impact our faith functions in a negative way.

How can this book benefit you?

  • Firstly, it will help you to find biblical strategies to retrieve your losses.
  • Secondly, it is a tool that you can use when counselling people who have suffered loss.
  • Thirdly, it can be used as a discipleship model.
  • Lastly, it can be used in a house church setting that will equip people to handle their losses.

These are just some of the ways this book can benefit you.

The book can be purchased at the following book retailers:

Meditation on Exodus 33:13 Week 5

Poetic Meditation

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people (Ex.33:13)

Father I want to find favor with you

Not out of works

But out of being

Favor derived from intimacy with you

Heart to heart

Just like the dance of the Trinity

Effortless unity

No striving

No competition

Mutual respect for one another

Your ways

The eternal way

That leads me to the door of intimacy

I want to know you

It burns red-hot in me

It consumes me

To know you

Your heart

Your thoughts

Your presence

As Paul said, ‘I consider everything as dung in comparison to knowing you’

I want to know you

I want to know you in my heart

In my emotions

In my intellect

I want to feel you as the lover of my soul

I long for your thoughts to saturate my thoughs

God thoughts

God knowledge

Heart to heart knowledge

No book knowledge

Shape my thinking about you

Sharpen my thoughts about you

They seem so blunt!

Practical Application

1. What does this verse teach me about God?

2. How does God want me to live right now?

3. What is God’s will for me right now?

Meditation on Exodus 33:7-23 Week 4

Exodus 33:13If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.

Poetic Meditation

Father my Teacher

I submit to your ways of wisdom

Ancient wisdom

From the beginning wisdom

Formational wisdom

Reformational wisdom

Your ways are not my ways

Your ways are higher

They are known in your being

Your ways encapsulates the panoramic view of the beginning from the end

There is no indecisiveness in your ways

They are perfect

Always hitting bulls-eye

Never out of sinck

Never off target

Your ways know the heart of welcome

Where it works its way

Straightening skewered humanity

Taking trackless humanity unto God-tracks!

Father teach me your ways. I submit to your leading. I am done with my own good ideas; my arrogant ways of self-sufficiency. I need your eternal wisdom.

Practical Application

1. What does this verse teach me about God?

2. How does God want me to live right now?

3. What is God’s will for me right now?

Meditation on Exodus 33:7-23

Exodus 33:11

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aid Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.

Poetic Meditation

Face to face

Breath to breath

The very being of the Father pulsating in the being of Moses

Total transparency

Total embrace

Voice to voice

Sound to sound

Eye to eye

Ear to ear

A oneness for eternity.

Abba I want a deep relationship with you that Moses had; face to face and breath to breath. I long for this. Teach me to be intimate with you. It’s all I want.

Practical Application

1. What does verse teach about God?

2. How does God want me to live?

3. What is God’s will for me right now?

Meditation on Exodus 33:7-23 Week 2

Exodus 33:9

As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses.

Poetic reflection:

God entrance

God connection

God embrace

Face to face encounter

Intimate words spoken between Creator and Creation

Cloud of glory

Imbued with God Majesty

God’s voice

Like the sound of rushing waters

The voice that is a change agent!

‘Lord I lay myself before you with an intense longing to encounter you as Moses did. By your grace I ask you to encounter me. I want to experience the cloud of your glory. I want to speak to you face to face. Holy Spirit keep on drawing me deeper into the Father’s love. Lord I want to hear your voice.’

Reflections on the text and poem:

1. What does this verse tell  you about God?

2. How should I live?

3. What is God’s will for your life right now?

Meditation on Exodus 33:7-23 Week 1

Exodus 33:7

Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the ‘the tent of meeting.’ Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp.

The Tent of Meeting

Abba I have set myself apart just for you

Your presence is enticing

I have seen your glory

I’ve beheld the beauty of your majesty

I’ve savoured it

I am like a sponge wanting more

Your presence is life to me

I simply come like a child

Expecting more of your revealed glory

I am presence addicted

The tent of meeting has become your throne room

By grace you have given me access

I come

I enter

I behold

I inquire

Time for Prayer

Jesus I want to be a person of your presence. Where I have grieved you Holy Spirit I ask for forgiveness. I want to be as close to you as possible. Today I want to take my hands of the steering wheel of my life and let you take control. I want to live in your throne room. I want to embrace you and live attached to you forever.

In your presence Lord I ask for the anointing to be able to worship you, work and raise my family. I am lost without your anointing. I need the fire of your presence to consume me. Without you I am nothing. Holy Spirit come like a hurricane and empower me to glorify the Father and Son.
